Installing a Pool Fence can Save Lives

A pool fence is something that people often think about as a decorative border for their pool area, but the fact of the matter is that they have a much larger purpose and that is to save lives. A backyard pool is a very hazardous area and needs to be protected properly in order to prevent unnecessary loss of life.

If having the phrase ‘loss of life’ associated with your pool shakes you out of a bit of a slumber, it should. There is an amazing amount of lives lost each and every year because people do not take the proper precautions in regards to controlling access to their pool.

Think of the many different scenarios where people can gain access to your pool if you do not have it properly protected with a quality pool fence. The last thing that you want is a neighbor or child entering your pool without your knowledge and then having something horrible happening to them. This is your property and you are liable for it regardless if allowed them in or not.

When you have a pool installed, you are taking on a huge responsibility. In order to protect yourself and your investment, you need to restrict who can gain access to it and when they can do so. One thing is for sure, you should never have people in your pool unless you are home and can supervise the activity.

Is this a little strict? Absolutely, but the last thing that you want is someone getting hurt and end up with a lawsuit on your hands. Imagine a neighborhood child who is a little curious and ends up wandering into you backyard because he is curious about the water. What happens when there is nothing there to stop him from getting into the water?

A different scenario could have a neighbor coming home after a long night of clubbing and being a little intoxicated. Maybe they are a little warm and decide to take a dip into your pool. Maybe they decide that the best way to get into the pool is to dive off of your back patio. You can see where all of this is going. It is a tragedy waiting to happen.

For very little money, you can protect yourself and your pool from invaders and possible tragedy. A good pool fence will prevent access to your pool and ensure that the only people that get into that area are the ones that you are allowing in there. The construction should be sturdy with a lockable gate.

There is some debate about how high the fence should be. You want to make it high enough that people or animals cannot climb or jump over it, but you also need it to be short enough that you can clearly see into the pool via view in your houses first floor. If you make it too high, people can be in there and you would never be the wiser. A fence of about 8 ft high should be enough of a deterrent and also allow you to see in from an elevated position in your home.
