Many people who are getting fencing installed are wondering whether or not they should hire fence contractors. A fence contractor will install the fence and guarantee the work. This keeps you from having to install your own fence. Some may not know how to install a fence. This is why a contractor will be important to the project.

Before you hire a fence contractor, you should check and make sure that they are licensed. You may also want to contact your local Better Business Bureau to make sure that they have not had any complaints filed against them. This way you will know that the person you are hiring is a legitimate contractor.

The next thing you should do is speak to your friends. Many may have used a contractor in the past and may be able to recommend one who is fair to deal with and does good work. Word of mouth can be the best advertisement for any contractor.

If you do not have anyone who can recommend a contractor to you, then you should do some searching on your own. Do not hire the first person who comes to your door and gives you an estimate. Shop around and get the best price with the best guarantee for the job. The guarantee is as important as the price so make sure both are the best you can get.

After you have chosen your fence contractors, make sure you get the details of the installation in writing. This invoice or work order should have all of the information and pricing on it. The time the job will start and the time the job will be completed. How much you will be paying for materials and how much will be paid in labor.

Your written guarantee should also be on this document that your fence contractors have prepared and it should have the letter head or name of the contractor on it along with their signature and the date they signed. You should also be required to sign the document acknowledging that you approve the work and agree to pay the amount required.

Do not sign this work order if there are any blank spaces for costs of materials. The contractor should already know exactly how much the material is going to cost. When they write up their initial estimate they would have gotten these figures. You should not give the contractor any money until everything is filled out and signed.

Once you have agreed to the terms, you will want to give your fence contractors a deposit in order to pay for the materials. Some contractors may want a percentage down on the job. Typically the industry standard is fifty percent when the job starts and fifty percent upon completion. This payment is to give peace of mind to the contractor that you will not go back on your word to pay. This also protects you from paying the full amount when the work is not done.
