Limited Space Allows for a Home Office with a Small Desk

As the economy drops, many people are forced into smaller homes or apartments. Families are moving out of their large homes and into homes that do not have as much space. These people are still trying to earn enough money to keep them afloat and are working from home as well as going out to work. It is possible to have a home office with limited space if a small desk is used.

These smaller homes typically do not have any extra rooms for an office. In many cases, children are sharing rooms to make up for the loss of extra space the larger house had. This means that a home office needs to be in a room that is used by other members of the family. A small desk will allow for an area in one of these rooms to be utilized as a home office.

This will not be much of a problem if the computer used is a laptop. A laptop will go anywhere and can be used in any area of the home. A small desk in the master bedroom would be perfect for this type of home office. The work can get done in this room with some privacy away from the children. This will allow for a more efficient work routine.

If the computer used is a desktop that is shared by the family for school work or research, this should be placed in a common area of the home. The whole family can then use this computer when there is no monetary work being done on it. What this means is that when the computer is not being used to generate income for the family, it can be used for school work or relaxation.

The best room for this would be the dining room or a corner of the living room. Place the computer so that it does not face the television or entertainment center. In this way, the children can watch their movies while the work is being done. This will cut down on distractions.

It is hard to keep down distractions while working. This is the most difficult part of having a home office that is not in a dedicated room. It will take a lot of self control to keep focused on the task at hand and not fall into the routine of allowing distractions to break up the flow of work.

When the children are doing school work, they will not be distracted if the computer is not facing the television as well. Adults have more self control when it comes to being distracted by a television show. It may simply be best to leave the television off while the children are doing their homework.

It can be difficult to have to downsize a home. There are many compromises that need to be made by the whole family. Having a viable home office does not need to be one of these compromises. Even with limited space, a home office is possible with a small desk.
