Do you remember when you were a kid and you walked by the big churches or the larger houses in the neighborhood and they always seemed to have a huge wrought iron fence on their border. When we were kids, they were nothing more than an obstacle. As an adult, you can now appreciate both the security and elegance that they can bring to a home.

There is a certain mystique that is associated with a wrought iron fence. It is almost as though the house gains a certain status when it is surrounded by one. They may be a little more expensive, but the difference in look from a wrought iron fence to a chain link fence is hardly open for debate.

Wrought iron fences have a look that is second to none. They are sturdy and with the various designs that are available for the top of the fences, they can take on the overall design of the property as well. The right design can take the perimeter of your home from average to breathtaking.

Of course, the main reason anyone installs a fence on their property is to ensure better security. If this is your major concern, you can make no better choice that a wrought iron fence. They are far from easy for the kids to climb over and can have some natural deterrents in their design that should be intimidating enough that nobody will want to climb over top of them and risk injury.

Some people will shy away from getting this type of fence because of the costs that are associated with it. However, when you take a really good look at it, the overall costs and maintenance that you will save with a wrought iron fence may make it as cheap as some of the other types of fencing that you are considering.

A wooden fence is subject to all kinds of issues. The paint can quickly peel off if it is not the right kind and if you fail to properly treat it, it could succumb to rotting as well. Chain link is another type of fencing that is subject to many different difficulties. The links can be broken or cut through rather easily and forget about the deterrent of keeping people out. The natural design of it makes it quite easy for people to climb right over the top and into your yard.

There are still going to be costs associate with a wrought iron fence, but the daily upkeep and risk of damage are far less than the other types of fencing. Checking them a couple of times a year for bare spots and adding a protective coat of paint are about all you are ever going to have to do to make sure that it stays in perfect condition. Compared to the daunting task of ripping up a different type of fencing and then having to re-install it make this fence seem like a bargain after all.
