When you want the rich look of hardwood flooring but you bank account is screaming cheap carpeting, all hope is not lost. There are plenty of options available to you where you can keep your costs down and still have great looking floors. This doesn’t even meant that have to buy cheap hardwood flooring. You may not be able to get the best stuff on the market, but you may not have to get the cheapest either.

DIY to Save Money!

Do the work yourself – to say that this can be intimidating to some people is an understatement.  However, the cold reality of it all is that you are probably going to have to pay someone over $1,500 to do your home and this is a very low estimate.  If you have a larger home, the services of a good installer can my much more significant.

Keep it Simple

Choose an easy product to work with – when you are going to do the job yourself, you can spend a portion of that money on something that is easier for a DIY person to work with. For instance, using an engineered hardwood floor alleviates the staining of the floor. You can also buy flooring that can be glued down instead of nailing it down. This is less of an opportunity for you to make a mistake and it is much easier to put down.

Save Big with a Laminate

Go with a laminate hardwood floor – depending upon the look that you are going for, this is a great product that will give you a hardwood look without the actual price of it.  These are synthetic floors that have the look of wood, but will stand up to moisture much better and are easier to work with.  For someone who is challenged on the financial end of this product, it is a great choice to have.

Due Dilligence

Do your research – just because wood flooring is cheap does not mean that it is bad. Have you ever heard the phrase that volume covers up mistakes? This is very true in this industry as you may have a retailer that does so much volume that they can afford to sell their supplies much cheaper than everyone else. They may only make 75% as much as the other companies on each piece, but when they are selling twice as much, who is making out better. Get on the internet and check reviews and start talking to people.

Keep it Personal

Always shop in person – whatever you do, make sure you get to see the wood that you are purchasing.  People can promise you the world on the internet only to have a mess arrive at your door.  When you are buying a discounted product, check it out in person and make sure it is still high quality.

Just because you are on a budget does not mean that you have to sacrifice quality.  Believe me, there are plenty of people and business out there that have responded to the down economy and are finding ways to sell their product cheaper without sacrificing their good name.  These are the companies that you need to find in order to make sure you are getting better than what you are paying for.
